NGC 6544: Globular Star Cluster (Sagittarius) RA: 18h 07.3m / DEC: -24° 59'.8 Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder |
The archer is home to numerous bright globular star clusters. NGC 6544 is among them. The sketch at left records a 190X view in the Meade Starfinder equatorial. The cluster is paired with 8.5 magnitude HD 165517, which shines 6'.5 to the south. 7.5 magnitude NGC 6544 covers a 3' diameter area and about ten 13th magnitude members are resolved. Some 40 field stars complete the portrait. You'll find NGC 6544 about 1.5 degrees southwest of the spectacular Lagoon Nebula, M8. |
