NGC 6229 is a globular star cluster located 4.8 degrees east-northeast from 3.9 magnitude Tau (22) Herculis. The globular's 9.4 magnitude glow covers a 2' diameter area at 129X in the 10-inch. The cluster features a stellar core surrounded by a diffuse glow. No members were resolved, which is not surprising considering the brightest members dimly burn at 15.5 magnitude. NGC 6229's turf is marked by 8.0 magnitude HD 151651, 6' to the west, and 8.4 magnitude HD 151689, 7' to the southwest.
