NGC 5694: Globular Star Cluster (Hydra) RA: 14h 39.6m / DEC: -26° 32'.3
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder

NGC 5694 resides in far the largest constellation by area in the sky, Hydra. Hydra stretches across nearly one-third the entire sky, from Cancer to Libra. The sketch at left shows NGC 5694 as it appears in my 10-inch Starfinder Newtonian at 63X. The 10.2 magnitude globular star cluster covers a 3' diameter patch of sky with no stars resolved. The lack of resolution is not surprising considering the brightest members are but 15.5 magnitude and the horizontal branch stars weakly glow at 18.5 magnitude. A close pair of 11th magnitude GSC stars stand at the southeast edge of the cluster. 7.0 magnitude HD 128787 is visible 11' to the south. Equally bright HD 128928 stands 20' to the northeast. Another 13 field stars complete the view.
