NGC 5557: Elliptical Galaxy (Bootes) RA: 14h 18.4m / DEC: +36° 29'.6
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder

Begin your star hop to NGC 5557 at 3.0 magnitude Seginus, in Bootes. Slew about 3.2 degrees to the southwest to find this 11.0 magnitude elliptical galaxy. NGC 5557 is shown in the sketch at left, which presents a 129X view in my 10-inch Newtonian. The galaxy covers a 2' diameter area with a slight stellaring at the core. A 10.0 magnitude star, PPM 77810, lies about 5' to the northwest. Another twelve field stars frame the view.
