NGC 4995: Galaxy (Virgo) RA: 13h 09.7m / DEC: -07° 50'.0
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder

Finding this galaxy is fairly simple. First, locate 1.0 magnitude Spica, which just happens to be the brightest star in Virgo. NGC 4995 resides just 5 degrees to the northwest. The appearance of this 11.1 magnitude galaxy in my 10-inch Newtonian is captured in the sketch at left. NGC 4995 extends east-west covering a 4'x3' area. This outer nebulosity surrounds a stellar nuclear region. A bright star, 8.2 magnitude HD 114267, stands 3'.5 to the north. The bright star near the center of my drawing is 7.3 magnitude HD 114286. Another twelve field stars complete the view.
