This Sa-type spiral galaxy is easy to locate. Just point your telescope at 4.4 magnitude Gamma (15) Comae Berenices and offset the star to the southwest. NGC 4448 will appear 27' to the northeast as recorded in my sketch. Based on an 82X view in the Meade Starfinder 10-inch Newtonian, the drawing shows a 3'x1' oval. The galaxy glows at 11.1 magnitude, is oriented along an east-west line and features a stellar core. 15 Com is the firebrand to the southwest of the galaxy in my sketch. A row of three 10th and 11th magnitude GSC stars lie between NGC 4448 and the northern boundary.
