This cigar-shaped spiral galaxy occupies territory in southern Coma Berenices. You'll find NGC 4419 just about halfway between M100 and M88. NGC 4419 is classified as an Sa-type galaxy in RC3. This indicates tightly wound spiral arms. My sketch portrays an 82X view in my 10-inch Newtonian and reveals a 3'x1' nebulosity elongated east-to-west. A 13th magnitude GSC star is positioned 1'.7 to the south. North of the galaxy, a pair of 10th magnitude GSC stars stand sentry. Eight additional field stars complete the view.
