A sweep through northern Coma Berenices with moderate aperture will uncover numerous galaxies. NGC 4245 belongs to a region particularly rich in star cities. You'll find NGC 4245 nearly halfway between 6.2 magnitude HD 107454 and 5.7 magnitude HD 106887. The sketch records the view at 82X in my 10-inch Newtonian. A string of four GSC stars, 10th through 12th magnitude, gently curves toward the barred spiral. NGC 4245 is compact, 60"x50", and shines at 11.4 magnitude. Two bright galaxies, NGCs 4274 and 4278, lie just beyond the eyepiece field half-a-degree to the east.
