NGC 3521: Spiral Galaxy (Leo) RA: 11h 05.8m / DEC: -00° 02'.2 Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder |
This large, bright spiral galaxy resides in western Leo. Begin your star hop at 5.4 magnitude 69 Leonis and slew 2 degrees due west. You've found it. NGC 3521 appears in the 10-inch Starfinder as an 8'x4' oval aligned northwest-to-southeast. This larger nebulosity features a bright, slightly elongated core region. 7.9 magnitude HD 96363, 10' to the east, is one of eight field stars included in my drawing, which presents a 129X view in the Newtonian. This is an excellent object for moderate aperture. |
