NGC 2360: Open Star Cluster (Canis Major) RA: 07h 17.7m / DEC: -15° 38'.5 Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder |
NGC 2360 is a real gem of the winter sky. It is positioned 3.3 degrees due east of 4.1 magnitude Gamma (23) Canis Majoris. The sketch at left represents a 129X view in my 10-inch, f/4.5 Starfinder Newtonian. NGc 2360, 7.2 magnitude and 12' across, occupies about two-thirds the field of view. Of the 85 stars recorded in my drawing, about 50 are members of the cluster. They appear as a rich collection of 10th through 12th magnitude stars tossed casually about the area. Several nearby bright stars mark the field, including 5.5 magnitude HD 56405, 22' west of the cluster and just outside my sketch. |
