Let's turn our attention from the galaxies and nebulae of the deep-sky to objects closer to home, the planets and comets within our own Solar System. These shallow-sky objects offer the ultimate test of visual observing skill and a real challenge to the sketch artist. The amazing beauty of these extraordinary worlds is far beyond the limit of mere words to describe. A well-crafted drawing encompases so much more, and records the experience in a manner that allows others to share in the moment.
The links below will take you to illustrated tutorials on sketching shallow-sky objects. My hope is that these pages will help others advance their enjoyment of visual astronomy and drawing as a way to record observations.
