NGC 7296: Open Star Cluster (Lacerta) RA: 22h 28.1m / DEC: +52° 18'.0
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder

This is one of many boring little clusters in the Astronomical League's Herschel 400 list. Located in the northern reaches of Lacerta, NGC 7296 can be found due east of 4.4 magnitude Beta (3) Lacertae. The sketch at left presents this OC as it appears in the 10-inch Starfinder. Centered in the drawing, NGC 7296 is defined by two arcing rows of relatively bright stars. Three stars, all about 12th magnitude are evenly spaced along a curving line from the center of the field toward the the southeast over a distace of 1'.3. Immediately to the north, four 11th magnitude stars curve along a slightly longer path. Nine fainter stars are scattered among these. Combined, the form the 4' diameter cluster we know as NGC 7296. Another 27 field stars frame the view.
