NGC 7243: Open Star Cluster (Lacerta) RA: 22h 15.3m / DEC: +49° 53'.0
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder

NGC 7243 is a 6.4 magnitude open star cluster hidden within the reclusive northern constellation, Lacerta. The sketch at left captures a 63X view in my 10-inch Newtonian. The 18mm Meade SWA eyepiece produces a 1-degree true field of view in my scope. The cluster is centered, but is so sparse that distinguishing the cluster from the field stars is a challenge. The brightest member is 8.5 magnitude HD 211210, visible about 14' inside the southwest field boundary. Nearby, a string of five 10th and 11th magnitude stars meanders along the southwest edge of the cluster. A pair of 9th and 10th magnitude stars, separated by 1'.6, are centered in the drawing. About 10' to the north, a tight three-star grouping stands at the norhtern edge of the cluster. Another 40 cluster members are captured in the rendering. NGC 7243 is located 1.5 degrees west-northwest of 4.6 magnitude 4 Lacertae.
