You'll find NGC 6939 about 2.5 degrees due south of 4.2 magnitude Theta (2) Cephei. NGC 6939 is listed as a 7.8 magnitude open cluster with approximately 80 members, the brightest shining at 11.9 magnitude. The cluster resides 39' northwest of NGC 6946. Together, they make a wonderful pair at low power in a 6-inch or larger instrument. My sketch records a 129X view in the 10-inch Newtonian. The cluster has a trio of 10th and 11th magnitude stars along its northern boundary. 6.9 magnitude HD 196085 is just 14' to the south. The densest section of the cluster covers a 6'x4' expanse with a triangle of 12th magnitude stars marking the southern extent of this concentration. About ten 13th and 14th magnitude cluster members are recorded.
