Planetary nebulae are among the most reliably interesting objects to observe with a telescope. Their coloration, structure, delicate appearance and response to nebulae filters guarantees something of interest will be brought to the table almost every time. NGC 6905 is no exception. This wispy planetary is featured in the sketch at left, which records a 190X view in my 10-inch, f/4.5 Newtonian. The nebula is sandwiched between a pair of moderately bright stars. 10th magnitude GSC 1639:1447 marks the northern edge and 12th magnitude GSC 1639:2261 marks the south. Between, lies the 12.9 magnitude (P) glow of NGC 6905. The nebula covers 80"x60" area with brighter east and west edges. It almost appears rectangular in shape. The 15.7 magnitude central star is not visible. Twenty-four stars frame the view. Look for NGC 6905 about 4.0 degrees due east of 5.1 magnitude Eta (16) Sagittae.
