This fine globular star cluster is nestled amongst the stars of northern Ophiuchus. NGC 6426 resides 52' northwest of 3.8 magnitude Gamma Ophiuchi and 1.4 degrees south 2.8 magnitude Beta Ophiuchi. The 10.9 magnitude globular cluster is presented in the sketch at left. It appears 3' across at 129X in the 10-inch Starfinder Newtonian. A pair of 11th magnitude GSC stars flank NGC 6426 to the northeast and southwest. Another 20 field stars frame the cluster. |
