NGC 6287: Globular Cluster (Ophiuchus) RA: 17h 05.2m / DEC: -22° 42'.5
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder

Of the more than 200 globular clusters known to be associated with our home galaxy, many can be found in Ophiuchus. NGC 6287 is among them. The sketch at left renders a 190X view in my 10-inch Starfinder Newtonian. The cluster is centered, a 4' diameter diffuse glow with an irregular core. The shape of this inner section reminds me of the constellation Capricornus. Twelve field stars, the brightest barely tipping the scales at 12th magnitude, frame the globular cluster. NGC 6284 resides about 2 degrees to the south.
