NGC 584 is located in a region rich with galaxies 2.3 degrees northeast of 3.6 magnitude Theta (45) Ceti. My drawing, made at 82X, shows NGC 584 as a 3'x2' oval. This elliptical galaxy has a visual magnitude of 10.4. NGC 586 is visible a few arc minutes to the east. With a visual magnitude of 13.2, it is also more of challenge to observe. NGc 586 appears as a 3'x1' finger of nebulosity. Both galaxies are pinned between two bright stars. 7.5 magnitude HD 9359 resides 12' to the northeast and 7.8 magnitude SAO 129345 shines 10' to the south-southwest. NGC 596 is just beyond the filed of view to the southeast.
