NGC 488 is a fine spiral galaxy located 2.3 degrees southwest of 4.8 magnitude Mu (98) Piscium. My drawing renders the Sb-type galaxy's appearance at 129X in the 10-inch reflector. NGC 488 displays a 4'x2' profile. It is aligned north-south, becomes a noticeably brighter near the center and features a stellar core region. Three evenly spaced GSC stars extend southwest from the southern tip of the galaxy. The bright star to the east is 7.5 magnitude HD 8302.
