There are plenty of galaxies to be seen in far southern Virgo, including NGC 4856. The sketch at left presents the view at 82X in my 10-inch Starfinder equatorial Newtonian. NGC 4856 is a 10.5 magnitude barred spiral. It has a compact 120" diameter profile and brightens noticeably near the core region. 7.0 magnitude HD 112613 is seen 19' to the west near the edge of the eyepiece field. A string of three 11th to 14th magnitude stars arcs away from the galaxy. A 10th magnitude GSC is stationed 7' southeast of NGC 4856,
