Next on the hit parade, NGC 4527 and NGC 4536, located 5.4 degrees west-southwest of 3.4 magnitude Auva, Delta Virginis. Both are nearly edge-on spirals and highly elongated. NGC 4536, a 10.5 magnitude Sb-type galaxy, covers a 6'x2' area along a northwest-to-southeast axis. NGC 4527, 10.4 magnitude, appears slightly smaller and is oriented more northeast-to-southwest. Side-by-side 8th magnitude GSC stars mark the halfway point between these fine galaxies. |
