NGC 436: Open Star Cluster (Cassiopeia) RA: 01h 16.0m / DEC: +58° 49'.0
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder

Burnham's Celestial Handbook lists 26 open star clusters in Cassiopeia. The Deep Sky Field Guide to Uranometria catalogs nearly half that total in just one section of that constellation. Chart 36 includes twelve open clusters, among these is NGC 436. It's not an impressive cluster, certainly not as fine as neighboring NGC 457. My sketch was made at 129X and records 41 stars. However, none but the central grouping are associated with the cluster. NGC 436 resides about 42' to the northwest of NGC 457.
