NGC 3953: Barred Spiral Galaxy (Ursa Major) RA: 11h 53.8m / DEC: +52° 19'.6
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder

NGC 3953 is a 10.0 magnitude galaxy in Ursa Major. My sketch presents the view in my 10-inch at 82X, a 6'x3' oval with a stellar core region and irregular brightening running the length of the galactic disk. This may reflect the barred spiral nature of NGC 3953. You'll find this bright galaxy 1.4 degrees south of 2.4 magnitude Phad, the bottom left star in the bowl of the Big Dipper.
