NGC 3938: Spiral Galaxy (Ursa Major) RA: 11h 52.8m / DEC: +44° 07'.4 Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder |
This fine, loose spiral resides in western Ursa Major. The nearest bright star is 5.2 magnitude 67 Ursae Majoris, 2 degrees southeast. The sketch at left renders the view at 82X in my 10-inch Starfinder Newtonian. NGC 3938's 4'x3' form is visible near the center. This 10.4 magnitude Sc-type spiral features a bright 10th magnitude foreground star nearly centered over the galaxy's core. No hint of spiral structure is detected. Eleven field stars complete the view. |
