NGC 3412: Galaxy (Leo) RA: 10h 50.9m / DEC: +13° 25'.0
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder

Leo is home to so many galaxies that it wouldn't be difficult to miss a few. This is especially true of the star cities sharing real estate with the bright Messier metropolises. NGC 3412 stands just 2 degrees northeast of M95 and M96. This 10.6 magnitude SO-type galaxy is presented in the sketch at left. The view at 129X in the 10-inch Newtonian is of a 3'x2' oval nebulosity surrounding a stellar core region. NGC 3412 is aligned roughly northwest-to-southeast. 7.8 magnitude HD 94089 is visible just inside the eastern field cutoff. Another 15 stars frame the view. 5.5 magnitude 52 Leonis marks the region from 1.3 degrees to the northwest.
