NGC/IC Objects

NGC 3384 & NGC 3389: Galaxy Pair (Leo) RA: 10h 48.4m / DEC: +12° 35'.0
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder

If you can find M105, you can find this pair of star cities. They all share the same 1-degree field. If you begin your star hop at 5.5 magnitude 52 Leonis, slew 1.7 degrees south to M105. My drawing presents that field as it appears in my 10-inch, f/4.5 Newtonian at 82X. M105 is an elliptical galaxy, a 3' diameter light patch with a stellar core region. It's fairly bright at 9.2 magnitude. M105 shares the field with NGC 3384 and NGC 3389. NGC 3384 is a 10.0 magnitude SO-type galaxy, 1'.5 in diameter and 7' east-northeast of M105. NGC 3389, 11.9 magnitude, is about 10' east-southeast of M105. This Sc-type spiral covers a 2'x1' area and is oriented along an east-west axis.
