NGC 2950: Spiral Galaxy (Ursa Major) RA: 09h 42.6m / DEC: +58° 51'.1 Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder |
But one among hundreds of fine galaxies in the Great Bear. NGC 2950 is located about 2 degrees west of 3.8 magnitude Upsilon (29) Ursae Majoris. This 10.9 magnitude SBO-type galaxy is shown in the sketch at left, which is based on an 82X view in my 10-inch Newtonian. The galaxy features a stellar core region encased within an oval 90"x60" nebulosity. A 12th magnitude GSC star is shown immediately to the west. Seventeen additional field stars complete the scene. |
