NGC 2811 forms an equilateral triangle along with Alpha and Upsilon1 Hydrae. Magnitude 2.0 Alphard is perched about 8 degrees north-northeast of the galaxy. Upsilon1, a 4.1 magnitude star, resides 8.6 degrees to the east-northeast. Closer to home, 6.3 magnitude HD 79752 is 1.3 degrees north of the galaxy. The sketch at left presents a 190X view in my 10-inch Newtonian. NGC 2811 is elongated roughly north-south over a 100"x50" area. The nuclear region appears dimly stellar and the northeast portion of the disk is visibly thicker than its counterpart. A 12th magnitude GSC star sits 2' west of the core. Of the 23 additional field stars, the brightest is a 10.6 magnitude sun stationed just inside the southern field boundary.
