This fine edge-on galaxy is housed in northwest Pyxis. 5.2 magnitude Eta Pyxidis simmers 3.4 degrees to the south-southeast and offers a good starting point for your star hop. My sketch presents the view in my 10-inch Newtonian at 129X. NGC 2613 is an obvious spindle of light covering a 3'.6x0'.8 area. The 10.3 magnitude galaxy is elongated roughly northeast-to-southwest. A swarm of stars frames the view. An 11.2 magnitdue sparkler is visible just 3' off the eastern tip of the Sa-type galaxy. The brightest star in the field, 9.4 magnitude HD 72767, shines 9' to the northeast. Another 50 stars complete the framework.
