NGC 2567: Open Star Cluster (Puppis) RA: 08h 18.5m / DEC: -30° 38'.7 Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder |
The defining feature of NGC 2567 is a string of seven 12th magnitude stars running northwest to southeast through the heart of the cluster. My drawing presents a 129X view in the 10-inch Meade Newtonian. This was achieved using my workhorse eyepiece, a Meade 8.8-mm UWA. NGC 2567 is described by Lynga as 10' in size, with 40 members and an integrated magnitude of 7.4. My sketch records 32 probable members, including the aforementioned asterism which is centered. The cluster is framed by some 40 field stars. You'll find this winter jewel in eastern Puppis. While in the area, don't miss NGC 2571, just 53' due north. |
