NGC 2423 is easy to find. Just locate the bright Messier cluster, M47 and slew 38' to the north. You'll find the loose tangle of stars featured in the sketch at left. Based on a 129X view in my 10-inch Meade Starfinder, the drawing includes about 70 stars, most of which are members of the cluster. NGC 2423 ranges across a 19' diameter area and has an integrated visual magnitude of 6.7. The brightest member is 9.0 magnitude HD 61098, which is just north of center in my sketch. About 2' due south and centered in the drawing, are a close pair of 10th and 11th magnitude stars. Another 11th magnitude pairing resides 1'.5 further to the south-southeast. The faintest stars in the drawing glow feebly at 13th magnitude.
