NGC 2354: Open Star Cluster (Canis Major) RA: 07h 14.3m / DEC: -25° 41'.5
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder

NGC 2354 fills the sketch at left. This 6.5 magnitude open cluster is presented as viewed at 129X with my 10-inch Starfinder Newtonian. The 20' diameter cluster fills more than half the field produced by my 8.8-mm Meade UWA eyepiece. Forty-nine stars are recorded in the drawing, including several 9th and 10th magnitude sparklers which are the brightest in the cluster. The majority chime in at a modest 12th magnitude. NGC 2354 is conveniently located just 39' due north of 4.5 magnitude 27 Canis Majoris.
