This dazzling beauty graces northcentral Monoceros from a position about 5 degrees west-northwest of the naked eye double, Delta and 21 Monocerotis. My drawing presents NGC 2301 as she appears in the 10-inch, f/4.5 Starfinder at 129X. The open cluster is nearly centered, a 12' diameter knot of more than 30 stars. At the very core, is a bright yellow-organge sparkler. This star is not clearly identified in any of the catalogs included with MegaStar5. Lynga gives an integrated visual magnitude of 6.0 for NGC 2301. My sketch records nearly 50 field stars as framework for this celestial gem.
