NGC 2194 offers a delicate sprinkling of star dust on the winter sky. This 8.5 magnitude open cluster resides in Orion. 5.1 magnitude Xi (70) Orionis stands 1.5 degrees to the northwest. 5.4 magnitude 73 Orionis is closer still, 33' to the southeast. The sketch at left renders a 129X view in my 10-inch Starfinder Newtonian. The cluster is centered. NGC 2194's brightest members barely reach 9th magnitude with many of approximately 15 cluster stars in the drawing falling in the 12th and 13th magnitude range. Averted vision reveals the dull glow of myriad faint background stars. It's really quite a nice view.
