This is another pretty little open star cluster in the charioteer. 1.9 magnitude Menkalinan, Beta (34) Aurigae, blazes 5 degrees to the south. 5.5 magnitude Omicron (27) Aurigae stands 2.7 degrees due west. Either star makes a great jumping off point for a hop to NGC 2126. My sketch records the view at 129X in the 10-inch Starfinder Newtonian. A trio of bright stars is centered and just north of the cluster. The brightest of these is 6.0 magnitude HD 40626. Looking 3' to the south, we encounter a pair of 11th magnitude GSC stars, a 35" gap between them. These point toward a 12th magnitude star anchoring the center of the star cluster. Lynga gives an integrated magnitude of 10.2 and a size of 6'. A host of 13th and 14th magnitude members come into view with averted vision. Sixteen field stars frame the view.
