NGC 1961: Spiral Galaxy (Camelopardalis) RA: 05h 42.1m / DEC: +69° 22'.8
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder

This 11.0 magnitude galaxy resides in the far northern reaches of Camelopardalis, the Giraffe. 4.3 magnitude Alpha (9) Camelopardali, 5.4 degrees to the southwest, provides a starting point for your star hop. Or begin the journey at 5.4 magnitude 36 Cam, 4.7 degrees to southeast of NGC 1961. The sketch at left records the appearance of this Sb-type galaxy at 129X in the 10-inch Starfinder. The galaxy covers a 3'.0x2'.5 area with a brighter core section aligned roughly northwest to southeast. A 13th magnitude GSC star is embedded against the southern edge. A 12th magnitude star is visible about 1' west of the galaxy. Another 40 field stars frame NGC 1961. Most of these are 13th magnitude or fainter.
