NGC 185 is a 9.2 magnitude satellite galaxy of the great Andromeda galaxy, M31. It is located in Cassiopeia about 1 degree east of NGC 147, another satellite of M31. M31 is easily visible to the naked eye about 7 degrees due south. My drawing records NGC 185's appearance in the 10-inch Starfinder equatorial Newtonian at 63X. The dwarf elliptical presents as an 8'x6' oval nebulosity sandwiched between 8.4 and 8.6 magnitude stars. The nuclear region features an elongated brighter section. NGC 185 has a low surface brightness of just 22.9 magnitudes per square arc second.
