Meteor showers are great subjects for piggyback photos. A 15-minute exposure centered on a bright constellation like Orion will record lots of stars and the occasional bolide. This image was taken in November 1999 during the Leonid meteor shower. A meteor streaking through Gemini is visible near the top of the photo. The Orion nebula is clearly evident in this 15-minute exposure. There is also a hint of nebulosity around Zeta Orionis, the region where the Horsehead nebula resides. This photo was taken on Kodak PJM 640 color print film through my Nikon F3. The zoom lens was set at about 35-mm.
