|NGC 5689: Spiral Galaxy (Bootes) RA: 14h 35.5m / DEC: +48° 44'.6|
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder
NGC 5689 is an 11.9 magnitude barred spiral galaxy in northwestern Bootes. NGC 5676 is nearby, just 50' to the northwest. My sketch presents the view at 129X in the 10-inch Starfinder Newtonian. NGC 5689, centered, covers a 3'x1' area along an east-to-west axis. He displays a subtle stellaring at the core and a tappered outline which gradually widens towards the middle. I also catch just the slightest hint of an S-curvature to the galaxy's form. Nine field stars complete the portrait. The brightest of these shines at 10.3 magnitude about 12' to the north-northwest. Observers with large aperture should go after nearby NGC 5682 and NGC 5693.
