|NGC 4143: Galaxy (Canes Venatici) RA: 12h 09.6m / DEC: +42° 32'.0|
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder
Canes Venatici offers a host of galaxies for your viewing pleasure. This object is among them. The sketch at left presents NGC 4143 as viewed in my 10-inch Newtonian at 129X. The SO-type galaxy is centered. Its stellar core is embedded within a 2'.5x2' misty glow. The elongation is slightly northwest-to-southeast. 8.5 magnitude HD 105585 shines 5' to the southwest. Another 16 stars frame the view, including 8.5 magnitude HD 105679 about 14' to the south near the field boundary. While you're in the area, check out NGC 4111 and NGC 4117, 42' to the northwest.
