|NGC 3613 & NGC 3619: Galaxy Pair (Ursa Major) RA: 11h 19.1m / DEC: +57° 52'.8|
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder
This pair swims among the many galaxies collected within the bowl asterism in Ursa Major. NGC 3613, north of center in the sketch at left, presents a 120"x90" profile. This 10.9 magnitude elliptical galaxy is framed by four 10th magnitude GSC stars when viewed at 82X in the 10-inch. NGC 3619 is visible about 16' to the south. Its 90"x45" oval is elongated nearly east-west. NGC 3619 has a blue magnitude of 12.5, which suggests a visible magnitude of 11.7 or thereabouts. Merak, the 2.3 magnitude star at the southwest corner of the bowl, is just 3 degrees distant.
