|NGC 3607 & NGC 3608: Elliptical Galaxies (Leo) RA: 11h 16.9m / DEC: +18° 06'.6|

NGC 3607 and NGC 3608 make a fine pair in a moderate aperture telescope. These elliptical galaxies reside in Leo just 2.5 degrees south and a skosh east of 2.6 magnitude Zosma, Delta Leonis. My drawing reflects a 129X view in the 10-inch. NGC 3607 is the 2'.5x1'.5 fuzz patch just northwest of a tight triangle of 12th magnitude GSC stars. Fairly bright at 9.9 magnitude, this transitional type galaxy shows a distinct brightening near the core. NGC 3608, 6' to the north, covers a 1'.5x1'.0 area along the south side of a parallelogram asterism of four 11th and 12th magnitude stars. This 10.7 magnitude elliptical galaxy features a stellar core region. The third galaxy in this drawing is 12.3 magnitude NGC 3605. It's stationed just southwest of NGC 3607.
