Herschel 400 Objects

NGC 3489: Galaxy (Leo) RA: 11h 00.3m / DEC: +13° 54'.1
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder

The lion plays safe haven to numerous bright galaxies. NGC 3489 can be found 3.7 degrees southwest of 3.3 magnitude Chort, Theta (70) Leonis. 5.5 magnitude 52 Leonis is just 3.4 degrees due east. The sketch at left presents this SO-type galaxy as viewed in the 10-inch Starfinder at 82X. NGC 3489 is northwest of center, a 1' diameter circular glow anchored by a stellar core region. Nine stars dot the field, the brightest being a 9th magnitude GSC star about 14' to the northeast.
