|NGC 2859: Barred Spiral Galaxy (Leo Minor) RA: 09h 24.3m / DEC: +34° 30'.8|
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder
This 10.9 magnitude spiral resides in far western Leo Minor just across the border from Lynx. In fact, the nearest bright star is 3.1 magnitude Alpha Lyncis, about 41' due east. My drawing renders the view at 190X in the 10-inch Starfinder Newtonian. NGC 2859 is visible near the center of the field. Its 2' diameter profile features a stellar core region. 7.2 magnitude HD 80966 shines 6' to the northwest. 7.7 magnitude HD 81057 is just outside the field of view, 10' to the south. A 14th magnitude GSC star peaks through the night sky some 3' to the east. Another six stars complete the view.
