|NGC 2343: Open Star Cluster (Monoceros) RA: 07h 08.1m / DEC: -10° 37'.0|
Instrument: 10-inch Starfinder
NGC 2343 is presented in the sketch at left. Centered at 129X in my 10-inch Starfinder, the cluster appears detached from the surrounding star field with moderate concentration toward the center. Only 6' across, the cluster shines with the combined force of a 6.7 magnitude star. My drawing shows about 10 9th through 11th magnitude members as well as a handful of fainter stars. HD 54360, a 9.4 magnitude star, is seen at the northeast edge of NGC 2343. The 40-odd field stars framing the cluster include 8.4 magnitude HD 54388 (10' south of NGC 2343) and a close pair of 10.4 magnitude stars at the southwest edge of the field.
